12 Kits of Christmas: October with Jessica

By Suzanne

It’s month #10 of our 12 Kits of Christmas project, and this month’s hostess is Jessica! If you’d like to read about how this group started and works, please read this post. :) Jessica sent us an Paper Smooches filled kit - super duper fun times!

I really loved that Jess also chose papers matching Autumn Rose instead of a true red - this card looks so pretty to me with those pink holly berries that I added from my bling stash.

I knew that I had to work with the dog image, and know exactly who I am sending this next card to…

I added some glitter to his hat and opted not to color him. I really like the pine boughs she sent us too.

For my card above, I channeled my inner Lynn Mangan! How did I do!? Oh, I hope I did her proud! I heat embossed the leaves from my own Paper Smooches set onto the patterned paper using a glittery embossing powder.

And here is my favorite one of the bunch! I added the Wplus9 snowflake diecut behind the sentiment and added my own fine linen ribbon and stitching. I love all those trees in the paper!

Here is a list of everyone else in our group. Have fun hopping around and seeing their creations!

Joyce: Cards-by-the-Sea

Paper Smooches SPARKS Challenge: Designer Drafts

By Suzanne

_DSC0002

I just watched the Patriots lose by 1 point and needed a quick pick-me-up so I decided to play along in this week’s Paper Smooches SPARKS Challenge!

When I saw the triangular shape in the sketch, I automatically thought of the tree in All Yule Need. I used a PTI die to cut the tag, and paper pieced everything using Versafine ink and October Afternoon’s Holiday Style collection.

_DSC0017
I selectively inked up part of the “Joy to the World” sentiment so it would fit on the tag, and finished it all off with some red bling and sheer ribbon. I also added a bit of Distress Inks to the edges of the tag.
That’s all for tonight! Hugs!

CAS-ual Fridays 68: Top of the Class

By Suzanne

I’m not sure this guy is making it to the top of the class, but I couldn’t resist pairing him with that Basic Grey sticker for this week’s CAS-ual Fridays Challenge, which is to make a back to school themed card.
This week’s sponsor is Pretty Paper Studio! How great would it be to win a gift certificate there. :)
I don’t have any school themed stamps, but I was able to pick up the Echo Park papers and the BG sticker in a jiffy at my LSS. I also behaved and was able to escape without any other wallet damage. Success! LOL. The little monster from Paper Smooches was paper pieced using a matching yellow-toned paper from Carta Bella, and I added the brown DMC floss bow since I felt like the bottom of the card needed a little extra something. I really love the math equations all over the background.
I hope you enjoy the long weekend!

RCC59: Paper Piecing with Laurel Seabrook

By Suzanne

It feels like forever since I’ve posted a card for The Ribbon Carousel Challenge! Some scheduling switches between the teams on our Crew was the reason, but Team A is back with a great one this week: PAPER PIECING! Our awesome crewmate, Laurel Seabrook, is the hostess…breakout your scissors and favorite patterned papers. This is a great technique.
If you really want to knock Laurel’s socks off…forget the fact that she has bookoodles of publications (including a cover!)…make a card for someone who LOVES to iron! ;)

For my card this week, I was inspired by this week’s Retrosketches Challenge, as well as last week’s Paper Smooches SPARKS color challenge. I paper pieced the cute bug from PS using some My Minds Eye paper, and filled the wings with glitter.

I used a traditional white grosgrain ribbon because I wanted the button and yellow cord to stand out. I love the look of the pale purple cardstock from A Muse Studio - so soft!
I hope you will join us this week! Hugs!

CAS-ual Fridays 57: Clear as Day

By Suzanne

CFC57

Hi everyone! Here we are with this week’s CAS-ual Fridays Challenge…and this week’s challenge is to make something using vellum or acetate. I hope you’ll play along with us! Our sponsor this week is Girl Friday Karolyn Loncon, who has donated six stamp sets that she has designed for Paper Smooches.

I decided to use vellum on my card today. I diecut a single Memory Box buttons border die from the vellum, but then used my Button Boutique die from PTI to cut the colored cardstock buttons from A Muse Studio cardstock - these were then stitched to the vellum strip’s button holes with DMC floss. Turns out this was a great way to avoid having adhesive show through the vellum or having it curl!

The patterned paper is from Echo Park and the Paper Smooches sentiment was stamped in black ink from A Muse Studio.

Hope you have a fun weekend ahead! Thanks so much for stopping by!

Paper Smooches SPARKS Challenge

This week’s Paper Smooches Sparks Challenge theme was “Prints are Charming” so I decided to do my best to make my own print using funky colors and one of the flower images from Friendly Flowers:

I used my tried and true and bold A Muse Studio inks and cardstock, which was scored in my Scor-Pal to give some texture to the cardstock base. I added some twine, rounded some corners and thought this one was done. Here’s a closeup of my stamping:

I have so much fun using their stamps - they just make me happy. :)

Warm Thoughts: CFC48 and PS SPARKS

By Suzanne

Yesterday was one of those days when I had an idea for a card and then spent a crazy amount of time making it work. Has that ever happened to you? In the wake of all the excitement from my last post, I wanted to express my thanks to all of you for your kind words! You all sure know how to make a girl feel great! I thought the “Warm Thoughts” sentiment from PS fit perfectly.
I started off choosing orange and blue as the two colors that I wanted to work with for this week’s CAS-ual Fridays Challenge: Opposites Attract. Halfway through the stitching of this piece, I realized that these are similar colors to those in the inspiration piece for the latest Paper Smooches SPARKS Challenge: a two-fer! Who doesn’t love that, especially when it’s not planned!

The DMC floss and cloth are available at most stores like Michael’s…and I realized it’s great for stitching chevrons. I am definitely going to have to try more patterns like this because I love the texture it gives this card. I adhered the sampler to a white cardstock base before attaching it to the card so that it would stay straight/flat and so I could add more dimension with foam dots on the back.

The cardstock base is a shade called Bermuda from A Muse Studio (it’s slightly more blue than PTI’s Aqua Mist), and the Sparklet is from Kaiserkraft (but available at RibbonCarousel.com in many colors…see my post below about their 40% off sale!). I used the new banner trio die from WPlus9 to cut the flag from their new white cardstock (which I am loving), and the PS sentiment was stamped in PTI’s Blueberry Sky ink.

I hope you have a great day! I am going to visit some family and will probably make a few more cards later on. What are your plans?

retrosketches #4

On Friday night, I had a great time at the Paper Smooches class! Meeting Kim Hughes and Karolyn Loncon was so fun; I love meeting such sweet and talented people! I left the class wanting every single Paper Smooches stamp!

One of the techniques that Kim taught us was paper-piecing. Though I had used this technique before, I never realized how easy it is to do with her stamps - they look amazing when peper pieced. I decided to use this technique on this card for the Retrosketches Challenge #4.

I used the Spring Fling paper pad by Teresa Collins, as well as some coordinating brads. I cut the metal off the back of the brads and adhered them with glue dots - I feel like this is better for placing them exactly where I want them.

I used PTI’s Tag Sale #5 die to cut the bottom of the banner. The die is wider than my paper strip but it still gives the same effect…love this trick.

Here I am with Jessica, Christina, Kim, and Karolyn! If you ever have a chance to go to one of their classes, you absolutely should. :)
